Narratives are integral parts of communication in filmmaking, and stock footage is no exception. Although not all video clips in a video library will follow the traditional cinematic narrative structure, knowing how to tell a compelling story with stock footage is a huge asset to any designer or producer\u2019s skillset.<\/p>\n

By creating an overarching theme, crafting a storyboard, envisioning framing, and experimenting with lighting,\u00a0BONNINSTUDIO\u2019s Stage Fright<\/em><\/a>\u00a0communicates a clear vision from beginning to end. From video clips to narrative film<\/h2>\n

First, a little bit about narrative video. A narrative is the result of a story and plot coming together. They\u2019re methods for creating intrigue and constructing meaning.<\/p>\n

There are many kinds of narrative video structures. The most common, however, is the classic narrative. You know it well. It\u2019s the structure used by the vast majority of filmmakers in most of the movies you\u2019ve seen. A classic narrative is broken into 3 parts: beginning\/middle\/end. The beginning is the setup, the middle is the development, introduction of conflict, and climax, and the end is the resolve. Some film genres will rearrange or omit parts of this structure \u2014 i.e., film noir is notorious for unresolved endings.\u00a0BONNINSTUDIO<\/a>\u00a0however, adheres to the classic structure, making for a satisfying, classic 3 part narrative.<\/p>\n\n \n \n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Concept<\/h3>\n

The development of a concept or theme ultimately sets the tone for the entire shoot. It can be a great guide to inform how the narrative is set up and executed. Before crafting a story, Eduard Bonnin of BONNINSTUDIO had a theme in mind for his shoot \u2014 something that just about everyone on the planet can relate to.<\/p>\n

\u201cMore than a story, it is a reflection. In this shoot, I wanted to talk about anxiety,\u201d Eduard shares. \u201cIn some way, we all have anxiety, especially for the things we do with love. I\u2019ve done so many photo shoots in my life, but I still have anxiety the day before, the hours before, right up to the shoot. Will the weather comply? Did I choose the right location? Did I hire the right model? Have I missed something important? So, this emotion of anxiety and fear was the basis for the shoot.\u201d<\/p>\n\n \n \n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
