Each week, our\u00a0video team\u00a0will be helping you learn more about how to tell stories with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC9oXr8jDlHse3zu3Ut_pqag\">video<\/a>.\u00a0Episode 1 focuses on the basics of filmmaking and is a great resource for those of you that may be transitioning from photography to video (or have been thinking about it but don\u2019t know where to start).<\/p>\n<p>Shot in Atlanta, GA during the production of a short film called \u201cHomme\u201d \u2014 written and directed by one of our Senior Artist Relation\u2019s Associates, Matthew Addington \u2014 our team braved the winter cold and worked together with an amazing team of creatives to bring you something we hope will entertain, educate and show you how simple it can be to create engaging video.<\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n    \n    \n    \n    <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_62b35915cf205\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h2>Episode 1: The Basics<\/h2>\n\n      \n              \n        \n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Making the Fourth Wall - Episode 1: The Basics\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/274688288?h=41394c9696&amp;dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n<span data-block=\"block_61a8f4f3f55cd\" class=\"toc-titles\" data-title=\"Frame Rate \/ Frames Per Second (FPS)\" style=\"display:none\"><\/span>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_61a8f4f3f55cd\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h3 >Frame Rate \/ Frames Per Second (FPS)<\/h3>\n<p>Also known as \u201cframe frequency\u201d, frame rate is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device displays consecutive images called frames \u2014 expressed in frames per second as FPS.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>24fps: Cinematic frame rate \u2013 that\u2019s what gives you the nice motion blur you see in movies and this is the frame rate Stocksy prefers.<\/li>\n<li>60fps: Shots in 60 fps or above look like \u201csoap operas\u201d and more true to real life, but not cinematic enough.<\/li>\n<li>60fps, 120fps or higher will be converted to 24fps and will appear in slow motion.<\/li>\n<li>Current software can accept clips in any frame rate and will typically auto convert them to the fps settings of your project with minimum issues.<\/li>\n<li>Some cameras like the RED Epic are able to capture super slow-motion shots (the Epic for instance shooting up to 300 fps) and interpolate the footage automatically down to 24fps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n      \n              \n        \n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<span data-block=\"block_61a8f50ff55cf\" class=\"toc-titles\" data-title=\"Shutter Speed\" style=\"display:none\"><\/span>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_61a8f50ff55cf\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h3>Shutter Speed<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>When filming in real time: Double your frame rate.<\/li>\n<li>If shooting at 24fps set your shutter speed at 50.<\/li>\n<li>If shooting at 60fps set your shutter speed at 120.<\/li>\n<li>If a clip filmed in a high frame rate might ever be used in real-time, then you need to keep the 180 degree shutter, otherwise, if it\u2019s meant to be kept slow, you can go with a much higher shutter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n      \n              \n        \n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<span data-block=\"block_61a8f51df55d1\" class=\"toc-titles\" data-title=\"Exposure + ND Filters\" style=\"display:none\"><\/span>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_61a8f51df55d1\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h3>Exposure + ND Filters<\/h3>\n<p>If you\u2019re shooting in bright light, you might be thinking, \u201cHow do I get this exposure right when I have to shoot 1\/50 as my shutter speed?\u201d The answer is to use an ND (neutral density) filter. This is like putting sunglasses on your lens \u2014 they basically filter the amount of light hitting the sensor. You can get variable ND filters that will give you a multitude of darkness options, or just stick with single darkness options.<\/p>\n\n      \n              \n        \n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<span data-block=\"block_61a8f53af55d3\" class=\"toc-titles\" data-title=\"Camera Angles\" style=\"display:none\"><\/span>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_61a8f53af55d3\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h3>Camera Angles<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Eye-Level<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is the most common view, being the real-world angle that we are all used to. It shows subjects as we would expect to see them in real life. It is a fairly neutral shot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High Angle<\/strong><br \/>\nA high angle shows the subject from above, i.e. the camera is angled down towards the subject. This has the effect of diminishing the subject, making them appear less powerful, less significant, weak, scared or even submissive.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Low Angle<\/strong><br \/>\nThis shows the subject from below, giving them the impression of being more powerful or dominant.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bird\u2019s Eye<\/strong><br \/>\nThe scene is shown from directly above. This is a completely different and somewhat unnatural point of view which can be used for dramatic effect or for showing a different spatial perspective. In drama it can be used to show the positions and motions of different characters and objects, enabling the viewer to see things the characters can\u2019t. The bird\u2019s-eye view is also very useful in sports, documentaries, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Worm\u2019s View<\/strong><br \/>\nOpposite from Bird\u2019s Eye view, this angle is close to the ground looking up, conveying an unnatural point of view from below.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Slanted\/Dutch Tilt<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is where the camera is purposely tilted to one side so the horizon is on an angle, creatin an interesting and dramatic effect. Famous examples include Carol Reed\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Third Man<\/em>, Orson Welles\u2019\u00a0<em>Citizen Kane<\/em>\u00a0and the Batman series<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n      \n              \n        \n  <\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\"><\/div>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n<span data-block=\"block_61a8f560f55d5\" class=\"toc-titles\" data-title=\"Shot Types\" style=\"display:none\"><\/span>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns stocksy-generic-text-image\" id=\"block_61a8f560f55d5\">\n\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:24%\"><\/div>\n  <div class=\"wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58%\">\n\n    \n              <h3>Shot Types<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Extreme Wide Shot<\/strong><br \/>\nOften used as an establishing shot.
